Homewares and fashion store Oliver Bonas has become a familiar and much-loved high-street presence during the last two decades. Oliver Bonas stores sell everything from colour-popping velvet tub chairs and home accessories, to fashion, jewellery and quirky gifts.
Entrepreneur and founder Oliver Tress has been named as one of London’s most influential entrepreneurs and retailers, and it all started from a small lifestyle store he opened on the Fulham Road in 1993, which has since grown into a chain of 42 Oliver Bonas stores that feature in nearly every major city from Brighton to Edinburgh and of course London.
The portfolio of London stores continues to grow and it was at the end of 2015 that the latest offering, in the prime retail spot of Tottenham Court Road, opened its doors.
The first store to launch with the new Oliver Bonas branding, and in such a prime London location, the store fit-out and design was essential.
AMD Interior Architecture was tasked with creating the stores interior design. Experts in creating brand experiences in a retail environment, they looked to embrace past examples of Oliver Bonas styling, but with a fresh and relevant vibe for the busy Tottenham Court Road store.
They specified Concreate Natural Grey flooring throughout the two-storey store. Totalling 180m2 the engineered polished concrete panels extend to the central stair case creating a seamless flow between both levels of the shop.
The neutral tones work perfectly against the eclectic mix of homeware and fashion items, creating an ideal backdrop that promotes a feeling of space and light throughout the shop.
Laid in a straight line grid pattern the installation of the flooring was completed in just a few days by contractors Premier Interior Systems. Chris Collins managed the project and commented, “This was the first time our team has worked with Concreate but once they got going the whole process was straightforward and much quicker and cleaner than installing a traditional concrete floor.”
Concreate is ideal in a retail environment. The tongue and grooved concrete panels are finished with specially formulated high solid oil giving the appearance of raw concrete, whilst providing a treated stain resistant surface that is hardwearing and easy to maintain, withstanding the high footfall of a busy retail setting.
