Renowned sculptor Brendan Hesmondhalgh has made a name for himself creating animal and figurative sculptures from ceramic and bronze which capture the dynamic nature of animals. Focusing on structure, movement and character, his distinctive style is notably recognised and collected worldwide.
His works are exhibited in specialist galleries and sculptural gardens across the globe, and having received high praise, including a Four Gold Star Award in 2014, for his past exhibits at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show he is back this year creating another sculptural garden featuring his large scale works of animals for use in gardens and open spaces.
Brendan embraces sculptural surfaces, using directional and textural marks to enhance each form and add colour. It’s this desired finish that has led him to collaborate with Concreate at Chelsea this year where he is using Concreate’s innovative wall panels in his garden to create a textured and urban concrete backdrop.
Brendan’s sculpture garden is inspired by the classical Roman walled garden, but replaces stone and marble with contemporary concrete. The emphasis is on simple clean lines and symmetry which will emphasise the more fluid organic forms of his fantastic animal pieces.
The challenge for Brendan was to get the garden built and planted in under a week, so Concreate’s lightweight concrete wall panels were the ideal solution. The 600 x 300 x 4mm panels can be bonded with Concreate’s outdoor grade wall adhesive to any weatherproofed object to create structures which look a feel like fully cast concrete.
Concreate, the precast engineered concrete floor and wall panel system with the durability of polished concrete and the look and feel of poured cement, delivers an intrinsically cool, brutalist aesthetic of raw concrete in a sustainable and lightweight form. Its popularity to create architectural features in any interior space continues to soar, and now for the first time the RHS Chelsea Flower Show showcases Concreate’s wall panels for use outdoors.
